Drawn from a survey of 35 UCLA students, this data visualization offers more than a directory of favored study locations. It illuminates the role that the physical environment plays in scholarly achievement. The project provides empirical guidance for selecting settings that align with specific academic objectives—whether sustained concentration, effective teamwork, or the motivational atmosphere.

The graph also provides contingency plans: if your first choice of Powell is quite occupied, the same chart highlights alternative spaces such as Bolter Library that students have endorsed for a comparable focus. The data visualization curates the collective experience of the community, turning individual preferences into a shared intelligence system that will be more precise and actionable as more data points are added in the future.

The project prompts students to examine how learning objectives intersect with the study environment. Selecting a study spot deliberately rather than by habit encourages students to consider whether they need the uninterrupted solitude of a shared space. Over time, this intentional matching of setting to purpose cultivates academic efficiency.
